Using Data Factory with a Azure SQL-Server Database in Azure Deutschland

    Question

  • We have a Azure-SQL Server Database in Azure Deutschland. Now we want to use Data Factory which is not available in Azure Deutschland, therefore my idea was to create an account in the "normal" Azure and use Data Facory from there.

Is this possible? Or do the SQL-Server and the Data Factory have to be in the same subscription and tenant?

  • Hi Joachim,

You can use the public (or normal, in your words) Azure Data Factory to copy data from/to or run stored procedure activity against SQL Azure databases created in Azure Germany. There is no requirement on subscription of tenant. You just have to provide the correct connection string. Notice that you will need a self-host IR if either of the following is true for your case:

    1. You are not allowed to configure your Azure SQL's firewall rule to allow access from public Azure

    2. If you are going to use copy activity and your company's policy does not allow data to flow out of Azure Germany into the public Azure.
