VS 2012 and SourceSafe(still) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi there

Unfortunately in out current development environment, the dev server is still Windows Server 2003 and so we cannot use TFS 2012 along with VS2012.

So i´m asking if VS2012 can still be used with sourcesafe, and how

    Thanks

  • Yes VS2012 can use VSS 2005 except the VS 2012 express version.

  • I was wondering the same thing and yes it can be done.  Previously I was using VS2010 with VSS 2005.  I have since updated to a new pc and along with that VS 2012.  I have now installed VSS 2005 on my Windows 8 pc, with a fresh install of VS 2012.

The way to get it to work was I took a chance and ran the patch for using VSS in the VS 2010 environment.  That same patch after I ran that on the new machine with VS 2012 worked great.  You can then configure your VSS setup in VS 2012 just like you did previously.  The one difference i found was that I had to first move the files from my old pc to the new one and open the solution from the local copy first.  Then VS 2012 can open the solution files which are all connected to VSS.

So far so good.  We have it working on more than one pc in the same setup and haven't seen any issues.

    Hope that helps.
