Can BizTalk Adapter Pack 2.0 be used to connect SQL Server 2012 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a scenario where I have to connect to SQL Server 2012 from BizTalk Server 2006 R2 (BizTalk Adapter Pack 2.0)  using WCF-SQL adapter. Can BizTalk Adapter Pack 2.0 be used to connect SQL Server 2012?

I did not find much in the forums about this. Can you please answer the question?

    Thanks in advance!

  • I would not suggest to connect WCF SQL adapter 2.0 to SQL Server 2012 as officially its not supported , rather use BizTalk 2013 which is under your  migration state.

    Thanks

  • It is working like champ. I am able to fetch and insert the records form SQL Server 2012 using BizTalk server 2006 R2 (WCF adapter pack 2.0).

I have developed a small BizTalk application to test the connectivity.

Thank you all for your time and effort.

  • Although not supported, it has been my experience that the BizTalk SQL Adapters (both the old deprecated SQL- and the WCF-SQL Adapter) can access SQL Servers of a newer date than the BizTalk Servers / Adapter Pack.

At the end of the day, the Adapters uses standard .NET code to access SQL Server, and when using regular .NET code to access SQL Server, you often see a newer version being used without any issues.

This should not be mistaken by the internal BizTalk SQL Server (the Server running the Management, MessageBox and Tracking databases). This SQL Server can NEVER be of a newer date, the BizTalk configuration simply won't work.

  • I would like to thank you all for answering the question.

I am in the process of migrating our BizTalk applications to newer version( BizTalk server 2013).  But one of the application database needs to be migrated to SQL Server 2012 (please note that this is not BizTalk databases). So for time being I want to switch the database connection to SQL server 2012 from SQL server 2005 (until we migrate BizTalk application to new version). So I was wondering that if WCF-SQL Adapter (BizTalk Adapter Pack 2.0) would be able to connect to SQL server 2012. I think, SQL Server 2012 should provide backward compatibility for old application.

Please share your ideas on this.

    Thank you!
