  • Everything that is deployed using the Windows Store has automatic update notifications (or with Win 8.1 if not disabled even automatic updates).

If you however have sideloaded the App in an enterprise scenario there is no backing infrastructure to do those updates. Then as THKAW has suggested your best option would be to send a push notification to the App that an Update is available and users can then decide to update it by sideloading the new version.

  • Official don't provide this feature for App.

But you still can handle this feature by implement notification service.

You need a back-end server to monitor or send message when your App been release new version.

  • For any users on Windows 8.1, their system should automatically download and install your most recent app update, as long as they have automatic updates turned on. This option is accessed by the user from within the Windows Store app by opening the Charms bar, clicking Settings, and ensuring the selector is set to Yes.
