Migration from .net framework 1.1 to 3.5 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We have a web application developed in .net framework 1.1(VS 2003). We are planing to migrate it to .net framework 3.5(VS 2008) is it ok to convert directly using the conversion wizard of VS 2008 or it will be better if we convert it to .net framework 2.0 first using the conversion wizard of VS2005 and then convert it to .netframework 3.5?

     Please clarify!

Thanks in advance for your help.

  • That's strange that it doesn't show up at all. You could try converting it directly to VS2008 but targeting .NET 2.0 instead. It may be that converting directly to .NET 3.5 won't be a problem. It all depends on the Web Application. Have a look at this walkthrough on MSDN though:

I'm not sure if you will encounter similar problems, but there's not a lot I can help with. You will probably get better answers on the ASP.NET forums because there a more WebDev professionals there.

    Hi Thiru727,

I agree with Etisoppo. This forum is for the support of the .NET Framework installation. Since your issue is related to ASP.NET migration, you could post your thread on ASP.NET Forum. This will make answer searching in the forum easier and be beneficial to other community members as well.

For more information on how to migrate to ASP.NET version 2.0 from previous ASP.NET versions and from ASP, here is an official document that can help you a lot. See: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dddsc60w.aspx

I hope this information will be helpful.

  • The trick is getting it compatible with the .NET Framework 2.0 first. There were significant modifications from 1.1 to 2.0. Once it is compatible with .NET 2.0, it can be easily converted to work with .NET 3.5. So I would suggest using VS2005 to convert it to 2.0 first, which may require altering some code, then making it compatible with .NET 3.5.

Hope this clarifies it for you!

  • Thank you etisoppo!

I tried converting the application to .net framework 2.0 first and while building the application i faced certain errors, one of the error is,

     could not load <page.aspx>

I found the code behind classes of .net framework 1.1 should be changed to partial classes and this was the error. I surfed through net and found for doing this we should right click the project and select convert to web application. When i right click my project or any of the pages i was not able to see the option "Convert to web application". Please help me solve this.
