XAML+DirectX Interop limitations RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Hello Everybody,

I created this thread for people who might want better interop between XAML and DirectX. Obviously, some people might already be happy with what we have today but I still want to point out the limitations that I see for the case you need to something more "sophisticated".

Although, I am very glad that we have some APIs (e.g. SwapChainBackgroundPanel) to integrate XAML with DirectX content in the Consumer Preview, it feels like 'stitching' them together instead of 'combining' both.

Correct me, if I am wrong but the new XAML ist based on Direct2D, written in Native Code. Why is Interop with pure Direct2D so limited?

I made a quick overview of the interop features I am interested in - I I might be in the minority that needs this kind of feature (If you want to create databound lists, you won't need this...)

For me, scenario 1 and 2 are the most important.

I hope, this feedback could be considered for the implementation of the coming versions of the XAML platform. Thanks.
