  • Question

  • How do you crop a picture? I searched for "crop" in Help and it didn't come up with anything relevant.

  • There isn't a way to crop a picture in Design (not in the traditional sense, anyway), but you can get the effect by using a clipping path. In Design, version 2, you can use a slice to select only the portion of the image you want, save the slice and then import the results back into Design.

Wish there was a better way.

  • Isn't there a create bitmap from onscreen parametrized in the tool itself?

(E3, Acrylic, EGD and (I am sure) ED1 did have a create bitmap tool)

  • I use the shape tools in Design to crop, a lot, they work great.
Had to crop a high rez image of a Soccer ball recently, took less than a minute with Design.
    Nice clean edges too, awesome.
If anyone wants I'll create a Webcast for that.

  • Thanks.
I am working on more of these for Expression Studio 3.
Right now a series of "simple" cartoon style animations in Blend 3.
    All requests are welcome.

  • In Expression Design, you'd draw the slice and then resize it on export.  It's OK, but there's a more "normal" operation in Expression Media.

  • Well done! Nice video!

  • Alternatively?

    1 - Open/import image into ED

2 - create a bitmap object (use 300 dpi).  This is constrained top a rectangular form as are usual crops.

3 - delete the source image

4 - save the .design file

5 - export the object based on a constraint to the selected object

6 - rename the export accordingly to the chosen file format at chosen resolution.

  • This sounds a lot like What Annie said, but in the version of Expression Blend I have (v.3), under the file menu there is a 'Crop Marks' option. Select that and then set the cropping boundaries. The next time you save it will be cropped as such. You will then have to reload that file.

  • Mark, your video was so straightforward and helpful - thank you for providing the cropping alternative!

    hi Chris
What/where is Expression Media? I have ME4, but it doesn't mention Media.
Expression is a new tool for me (coming from an adobe background) so I am trying to learn and master as much as I can and "normal" sounds good LOL.
