App Certification - Do I need to give user ability to download data over wifi only? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm just wondering if its necessary in my app to have an option to make the app download data over WiFi only?

I mean I want to include it eventually, but want to know if my app will fail certification if I don't include it.

  • You can check what kind of connection you're currently using.

  • Hello Sal,

Your app should function regardless of the type of connection (cellular or wifi) if it requires an internet connection.

Yes it does, and when there is no connection is informs the user that the data is unavailable. But none of the responses answer my question.  Will certification fail if I don't include the option to 'download or retrieve data over wifi only'

    i checked the app guidelines

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windowsphone/develop/hh184841%28v=vs.105%29.aspx

but couldn't find anything about this so I'm guessing its ok not to have this?

I noticed a lot of apps have this option.  For example bing weather app.
