    Question

  • Dear Fellows

During the installation of SQL Server 2016 from external HD, I had and an installation error due the disconnection of HD, I connected it back to complete the installation but I received an error. Therefore, I can't finalize the installation properly. I had to uninstall the server from control panel but it didn't work also. I tried too many times to re-install it again but I received million of errors.

    My question is : -

    - Is there any method to remove SQL server totally from PC then I can install it again just I did in the first time ???

    Many Thanks

  • I think, if it's a viable option you better re-install your operating sistem if you want a clean installation and if this is going to be a production server, then you will want it to be a clean installation.

  • I would like to believe that after the first failure, it simply would work to start over. Maybe you ran into some other problem.

Now when you have been messing forth and back, it may be quite diffiult to get the installation going.
Anyway, without knowing which errors you get it is impossible to help you. The best may be that you try the installation again and share the error message you get. No promises that we will be able to help you, though. Installation failures are always difficult to sort out.

Ekrem suggested that you should reinstall the operating system, and that may make sense if this is a server which you have only to run SQL Server, but if this is your laptop with tons of other things on, that is not an appealing option. However, if you have Windows 10 which is an upgrade from earlier version, I am inclined to recommend an OS reinstall, since I've seen several in that situation who were not able to install SQL Server on their machines.
