"Show add-in user interface errors" doesn't work? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Are there any known reasons why this option wouldn't work? I've discovered that my unhandled exceptions are being swallowed? Thanks.

P.S. Apparently I'm not the only one with this problem: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1018745/word-vsto-swallows-exceptions-at-runtime-without-debugging

  • I was able to get a message box by setting an environment variable VSTO_SUPPRESSDISPLAYALERTS to 0 per this article: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/brijs/archive/2008/10/10/tips-tricks-for-troubleshooting-for-office-add-ins-part-1.aspx. That's a little confusing, one would assume if it were not set at all, you'd also get a message box.

  • I guess I should mention that I'm developing in VS 2010, targeting .NET 3.5, using Word 2007, running Windows XP SP3.
