SSAS: Calculations tab buttons are disabled / grayed out RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm building a new cube and went to the Calculations tab. Most buttons (e.g. New Calculated Member, New Named Set, New Script Command, Delete, etc.) are disabled / grayed out. There is an error that reads... Unexpected error occurred: 'Unexpected internal error in the parser: -1055653418'

Some other tidbits... I have not attempted to build a calculation in this cube yet. I tried anew as well by spinning up a simple cube against Adventureworks DW went to the Calculations tab and saw the same.

Any thoughts on how to resolve this?

    Many thanks!

  • Issue resolved! I attempted the same cube build on my sys admin's computer. The Calculations button were enabled. He suggested I upgrade my 2012 SQL installation to SP1. It works now. Yea!

  • Hi Usidore,

In this scenario, the issue should be caused by incorrect syntax in your calculation script.

Please close the cube file and reopen the Calculation tab. You should be to select the "Script View", and the see all scripts you have applied. Remove everything but "Calculate;" and save it to see if those buttons are clickable. Then input the scripts with correct syntax.

  • Hi Simon -

When I click "Script View", nothing happens. It doesn't toggle. No changes.

I also tried right-clicking the cube in the solution explorer and selecting "View Code". I searched for "calculation". No hits. What I find odd is, with the assumption I caused the issue, I started a new project as a test case against AdventureWorks DW, added the data source view, added a cube based on one fact table and its dimensions, and then click the Calculations tab... same outcome. I am wondering if there some permissions or installer issue. I don't know; I'm grasping at straws.

    Any thoughts?
