Classic ASP Errors Showing as Blank Page RRS feed

Hello. We have recently moved some Classic ASP applications over to IIS7 on Windows Server 2008. Before on Windows Server 2003, application errors would generate an error page giving detail about what the problem is. Now, we just get a blank white page. We have put some errors in a script on purpose to generate an error, and all we see are white pages. I have edited the application settings as well as the server itself in the IIS administration tool to display errors, specifically by turning on Send Errors to Browser as described here: http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/564/classic-asp-script-error-messages-no-longer-shown-in-web-browser-by-default/ Making the above change had no effect, we still see a white error page. We also see no errors being logged in the event log or otherwise. How do I enable error reporting? -Chris

I would first ensure that Active Server Pages are in fact installed.

    http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/562/classic-asp-not-installed-by-default-on-iis/

Once you've confirmed that is enabled I would confirm that the application pool for the site is using Classic mode. I would then create a simple .asp page with only response.write "hello world" so you can eliminate any programming issues.

Then I would confirm that "Send errors to browser" is enabled.

If you are using an IE web browser then I would confirm that your browser has "Show friendly http errors" disabled.

Here a complete reference for using Active Server Pages and IIS 7:

Here's a great guide on troubleshooting Classic ASP errors using Failed Request Tracing:

Did you try to run the browser on the server?

(There are settings which enable/disable to show the errors on the client browser)

I had the same problem when I installed WebMatrix, to get them back:

Turn off ASP in Control Panel and Programs and Features

Then go into ASP in IIS for the site or server as required and re-enable:

    Enable Client-side Debugging

    Send Erros To Browser
