Data Protection Concerns RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello

I want to visualize my data with a power map, and to do so, i am asked to send my data to Bing in order to geocode it.

I am really concerned about doing this since my data is private and I'm afraid that by sending it to bing it will get storaged somewhere.

are there any ways to use this visualization without compromising the data protection policy.

    Thanks,

  • When you geocode and address with bing the only place it gets stored is in the server logs for a short period of time. These logs are used to calculate usage of the services and if need be, to help investigate issues. The log data ia treated as confidential data for security and privacy. There really isn't a privacy concern here when using power maps as all queries from all users of power maps use the same authentication key which prevents linking individual users to their queries. Additionally, if bing maps geocodes your address, it already has it. The only information sent to bing maps is the address data, none of your other data you have in excel. Many high security users around the world use bing maps such as government agencies, police, and military.
