FAQ: What is "Error 401 - INSUFFICIENT PRIVILAGES" during EA registration? RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Overview: Azure EA API keys can take up to 30 minutes to propagate after generating them in the Azure EA Portal before they can be used to setup Cloudyn.
    - And, Azure EA API keys need to be generated at the enrollment level to setup Cloudyn.
    - Also, Indirect EA customers need to have their reseller enable Markup for them to be able to setup Cloudyn.

When using a newly generated API key you might encounter "Error 401 - INSUFFICIENT PRIVILAGES" during registration of EA into Azure Cost Management.

In such a case please allow 30min-1hr and try registration again with the same key.

Please note you should not generate a new key, otherwise the ~30 mins timer needs to be restarted.

This is a known lag resulting in API key validation in new usage API.

If following these steps you still encounter and issue, please open a service request or post to this forum.

Please note: If you enter your EA API Key in Cloudyn without waiting in 30 minutes, Cloudyn will continue to show a 401 error indefinitely, until you re-enter the key. Cloudyn will not automatically retry with your EA API Key in 30 minutes.
