Dual booting with Linux ?

    Question

  • I've installed WDP in vmware8 and it runs great. I want to try it on a laptop which is dual-booting linux-mint and windows7. Has anyone managed (or even tried) to dual-boot Windows8 with a non-microsoft os ?

  • Boot from the DVD and install Windows 8 on a separate partition.

After installing WDP the GRUB bootloader will removed.

Install EasyBCD and have it add Linux back to the boot menu.

    EasyBCD:

A note if you're installing this on your main computer:

From the main WDP download page:

The Windows Developer Preview is a pre-beta version of Windows 8 for developers. These downloads include prerelease software that may change without notice. The software is provided as is, and you bear the risk of using it. It may not be stable, operate correctly or work the way the final version of the software will. It should not be used in a production environment.

  • Wow hey no, hope I'm still on time to correct TrekDozer!
EasyBCD would be the way to go, but it doesn't support windows8 yet!

  • I've already used it, it worked fine.

Did you have a different result?

  • Yeah, lol, but it was at the first day of Windows8DP ^^
Back then, a guy of easyBCD basically told me not to use EasyBCD yet because it didn't work well :O But he did tell me they where going to try and fix it asap so it would support win8. Guess they support it already then, thanks for your reply ;)

Actually I used an older version, not the current one.

The newest one on their site is from Jun. 20, 2011.

  • Lol, yeah I guess he just said it because it's not failproof(?)
After all win8 should run what win7 runs.

ahwell, better safe than sorry :)
