SQL Server 2005 and 2008 Mirror destinations on same box RRS feed

  • Question

  • Can I have two instances on the same box be mirror destinations?  I have a windows 2k3 box that hosts a 2005 DR instance which mirrors our 2005 dbs and a 2008 instance that I would like to mirror our client's 2008 databases(they've moved up, we will be moved up this year).

Are there any conflicts with port 5022 or any extra configuration that I need to perform?

Thanks for whatever help you can give me.

  • AFAIK, There shouldn't be any problem in having both the instances as mirrored databases. Each database mirroring server instance requires a unique listener port that is assigned to the database mirroring endpoint of the instance. A server instance can have only one database mirroring endpoint, which has a single port.So if you have 2 different instances configured for mirroring with other 2 instances, you need to have different end point for each of them. • There isn't any problem to configure mirroring between two instances of the same product and version, but by no means can you configure mirroring between SQL 2005 and SQL 2008.
