concatenating all items under one group RRS feed

  • Question

  • hi,

i have created groups in report. Now i need to concate all the items under each group with "," and display all of them in one cell itself. can it be done at report level?

    Ex:  A  - 1, A -  2, A - 3, B - 1, B - 4 , B - 5

    Expected result : A - 1,2,3

    B - 1,4,5

Consider A,B as groups and 1,2,3,4,5 as items under each group.

No of items in each group will be dynamic.

Here evry thing need to be done in report only.

  • Sorry , But you can do this only at your source  !

Likely work around which might look close would be using a matrix to achieve this .

    Row Group on Fields!CharacterFieldName.Value

    Column Group Fields!GroupItemFieldName.Value .

Detail  data expression will be same as Column Group value expression.

Delete Column Group ( Delete only Row) Not group .

  • sudeep, try this. not sure if it will work. at the group level of A or B, using this expression:

    =Fields!1stLevelGroup.Value & " - " & Join(Fields!Items.Value, ",")

good luckkk. let me know if it work, or not.

  • Hi sudeep Puvvadi,

I will share a workaround with List component in Reporting Services:

    1.       Drag a list to report design surface.

    2.       Right-click the list handle, select Tablix Properties.

    3.       In Tablix Properties pane, in the DatasetName drop-down list, select the main dataset of your original table.

    4.       Right click the Details group, and click Group Properties.

    5.       In Group Properties dialog, click add to define a group for the details row.

    6.       Drag a textbox into the list with the group field as its value.

    7.       Drag a matrix right after the textbox with the field containing -1,-2,-3 etc as columns group. And then delete the first empty column, hide the Data row.
