Can't auto install driver from windows update? RRS feed

  • Question

  • We implemented an Extension driver and SoftwareComponent driver(these drivers version are ver.2) to perform the firmware update of our USB camera. And we also already published these drivers to Windows Update.

When we preinstalled the Extension driver and SoftwareComponent driver(ver.1) on Windows. And plug our USB camera, Windows will properly install base driver and our own drivers(ver.1) for the camera . Next, due to the SoftwareComponent driver, Windows will also create a virtual device node (SWC \ VID_XXXX & PID_XXXX) in the Windows Device Manager. Then run Windows Update, Windows will update these drivers from ver.1 to ver.2.

Is it possible to install these drivers(ver.2) through Windows Update without preinstalling our ver.1 drivers?(it also means Windows doesn’t have the virtual device node(SWC\VID_2574&PID_09B0) of USB camera in Device Manager).
