Answers

  • 1. Using ICE and started with the "Template Device Retail.xml"

    2. Followed the step by step instructions at

    Create a Kiosk-Style Device (Standard 8)

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj980124(v=winembedded.81).aspx#BKMK_Step2

    3. Using ICE created a bootable USB flash with Tools-Create Media-Create IBW Image with full Catalog.

    4. Boot the device with the USB Flash.

    5. At Windows Setup dialog box, selected "Deploy a Configuration File or WIM".

    6. Selected Configuration XML file and Setup initiated.

    7.  Received an error box that "No images are available"

    Should note I am using a 30 days evaluation copy of ICE.

    Thank you for your response.

  • Configuration files need the rest of the IBW disk. Can you be a little more specific? Did you create the image in ICE?

  • I resolved the issue.  On my device the Product ID is embedded in the BIOS.  Must override  BIOS Product ID with the Product ID supplied for the evaluation.  Found the procedure to override the OEM key:

    Use notepad to make a file called PID.txt and put the following in the file:

    [PID]
    Value=XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX

    Place your windows 8 Pro key in where the X's are and save the file to the /sources directory in the root of your USB key.

    The PID file overrides the pre-installed OEM key in the bios of your computer.
