Create New Item in Workflow and then Navigate to Edit the New Item RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have set up a workflow so that when I create a new item in one list, based on a choice in one of the fields, the workflow will create a new item in one of three different lists. It works fine for creating the new item in another list, but I would like to automatically open the newly create item. Is there any way to do this?

For example, I create a new item in list A. When I click my custom Form Action Button, it creates a new item in list B with a couple of fields from the input form on list A and submits the info in the new item on list A. But then, I need to fill out more information on the item in list B, not only the 2 fields it pulled from my input form into list A.

So it would be nice to be able to redirect to the edit form page for the new item as part of the actions on the custom form action button.

Is this possible or am I asking for too much? :)

  • I'm afraid you are asking for too much :-(

The workflow can help you as far as taking/automating certain actions, but can't help you navigate within the site or to another page. You could specify appropriate url in the "Source" query string when entering new item ListA, but that won't help you in this specific example. That's because when you are in the process of creating a new item in ListA, you don't know what the ID will be for the item created in ListB.

  • Hi,

I think you cannot achieve this OOTB. Instead, you might need some custom code.

Aaron provided a simple event handler solution to redirect to another list form for a new entry in his reply. Hope it will be helpful to you.
