Can you run IIS/SQL on the Windows Developer tablet?

    Question

  • An interesting question popped up in a discussion today. Will it be possible to run IIS/MSSQL locally ona a Windows 8 tablet?

Any information about this would be appreciated - thanks.

Not sure about IIS as I'm not sure whether or not it will be an included
component for the ARM version of Windows 8 but SQL, yes, as long as the
tablet in question is an Intel/AMD tablet and not an ARM tablet.

Keep in mind that the issue is not in the form factor but rather the
chipset. ARM versions won't run Win32 apps.

It is now pitch dark.  If you proceed, you will likely fall into a pit.

  • It best to wait for update from Windows Product Team and they also look at demand for features and usability. Even if IIS won't run on tablet, you could connect to it remotely using remote desktop.

We are in cloud computing era.

  • Thanks - the question was precisely aimed at situations where no network is available or to be more precise - where app cannot depend on netowkr access. Think military, emergency situations etc ... Even in cloud computing era there are situations and places where network is simply not there and the app must run.
