When does case sensitivity matter? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am just beginning to learn SSRS...I am using MS SQL Server R2.

I have read some discussions dealing with case sensitivity of object names but am more confused than ever. When does case matter when referencing object names and why?

    Thanks for helping this newbie.

  • Hi Dave,

In Reporting Services, the names of the following objects in expressions are case-sensitive:

    • Field
    • Parameter
    • DataSet

The names of the following objects are not case-sensitive:

    • SQL Server Reporting Services instance name
    • Shared Data Source in the Report Designer in BIDS
    • The Virtual Directory of report server or report manager
    • Items on the report server (Folder, Report, Report Model, Shared Data Source, etc)

The two lists above may be incomplete statistics. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
