Windows 8 Applet Embedding Not Working RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

    I'm trying to embed a .jar application into a Windows 8 app I'm making with HTML and JS. However, upon load, I get nothing where the applet should be. I'm using the correct code, I believe, as I have a version which works on the internet. (http://heliosx.us.to/play) I copied the code from my previous one, so I'm left to believe that there may be a compatibility issue with the <applet> tag. Please help.

    The code I'm using is as follows:

    <applet class="one" name="HeliosX Client" width="765" height="503" archive="/HeliosX Client.jar" code="Loader.class">
    <param name="java_arguments" value="-Xmx1024m">
    </applet>

    If I remove the param tag, no difference is made. I also tried embedding the Client into the package, which then looked like this:

    <applet class="one" name="HeliosX Client" width="765" height="503" archive="http://db.tt/wpKYXTkN" code="Loader.class">
    <param name="java_arguments" value="-Xmx1024m">
    </applet>

    It still resulted in nothing.

    Please help.

  • Hi Matthew,

    Java is not supported in Windows Store apps.

  • That stinks. There's no way around this? I guess it's not supported because Java isn't preinstalled with Windows 8... Couldn't I make it so that it'd detect whether or not the user has Java and, if they do, run the applet? And it could redirect them to the Java download page if they didn't? I feel that you guys at Windows should implement Java...

    It's just the implementation of an applet, as well, so it shouldn't matter. I'm not trying to use java code in the app. I just want it to use a predownloaded Java applet.
