.Net Framework 3.5 installation on Windows 8.1 - SxS folder redistribution allowed RRS feed

  • Question

  • We need to install and use our application, developed with .NET 2.0 framework, on Windows 8.1.
We know that .NET 3.5 (which includes 3.0 and 2.0 framework) is optional on Windows 8.1.
As far as we can figured out now, there are two possible ways to install and enable netfx35: by Windows Update or using cmdlet "DISM" with administration rights.
Installing the netfx35 with the source directory and the cmdlet is working without problems.

Mainly our customers have no internet connection and we want to install the framework on Windows 8.1 quietly without using internet connection and the Windows 8.1 DVD.
Is it possible to redistribute the content of the SxS folder along with our application setup package?
Can you tell us about the legal things for SxS folder redistribution?

    Thanx in advance.

As the .NET Framework is freely distributable, it is my OPINION that you should be OK. However my opinion is worthless (legally), as would be the opinions of others here unless a Microsoft licensing specialist replies.

Since the question is a license issue, you can call 1-800-426-9400, Monday through Friday, 6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. (Pacific Time) to speak directly to a Microsoft licensing specialist, and you can get more detail information from there.
