Is ID3D11DeviceContext::ClearState method obselete or unnecessary?

    Question

  • In a typical D3D10 application, the D3D10Device::ClearState method is usually called before program exits. However, in several Windows 8 code samples, this method is nowhere to find. Is this method obselete or unnecessary in Metro-style applications?

Answers

  • Metro style apps don't get notified on exit so there isn't a place to call this. You don't need to clean up since the process is being broken down anyway.

See Guidelines for app suspend and resume for information on how to deal with suspend and resume.
