Bring back "Copy of" RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • dumb request, but when copying and pasting documents (Ctrl-C / Ctrl-V), the system inserts "Copy" just before the file extension (e.g. xxxxx - Copy.xxxx).

Is there any way to bring back the old way of pre-pending "Copy of" to the beginning of the file name? It used to be much easier to sort by name and see all the copies grouped together.

  • It is mostly user experiance question, readability and user experiance will improve in Windows and it could be one suggestion , but final decition of design relay on many factors and the one that is bring better experiance to majority of users would take into consideration.

  • Bringing the feature back will ruin the idea. Think of sorting. Having 'copy' at the end results in proper sorting while having it at the start just messes it up.

  • The change was made for localization purposes. "Copy of" has to be translated into every language Windows supports and remain grammatically correct. Instead a hyphen followed by "Copy" can be translated without grammatical errors. Plus, for sorting reasons, I feel "Xyz - Copy" is better than "Copy of xyz".

  • As a workaround, you can search (Ctrl+E) for "*copy" to find all the copies in a folder.
