Project Online - Security, Views migration RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I'm able to migrate custom fields, lookup tables, PDPs, Phases, Stages, EPTs from one Project Online Instance to another PWA Instance using CSOM.

But I'm having hard to read existing configuration on below config items,

    1. Security Settings,
    2. Manage View
    3. Custom fields with Graphical Indicators.

I didn't find any CSOM members available for public for coding.

I don't have much idea on how to use PSI code with in Project Online, please guide me.

    -Veera.

  • Paul provides a good link to PSI and Project Online and I haven't done any CSOM development. However, I didn't think the security settings are available thru CSOM, because data is found a different schema of the database and CSOM doesn't have access to that data.

  • Hi Paul,

I tried long back & now... MICROSOFT.OFFICE.PROJECT.SERVER.COMMUNICATIONS.DLL is missing from the package solution.

ANy idea, how can I get that dll to move on?

any one tried programming PSI for Project Online?

    Thanks,

  • Hi Michael,

There are third party migration solutions available in the market(Fluent Pro), then how come they achieved migrating security, views ...?

There is possibility for sure, I'm looking for the ways to get it.

    Thanks,

    Veera.

  • We use the PSI for exactly this - migrating config between Project Online instances and Project Server to Project Online migrations, its works with no issues. Fluent Pro also use the PSI as there are no other options.

  • Hello,

You will need to get the DLLs from an on-premise Project Server 2016 / 2013 install.

  • Hello Veera

Paul says that they are doing this (project online to project online), then apparently it can be done.  that's good to know. Your question was with CSOM (and not PSI) and there is where I didn't think it could be done.  Fluent Pro doesn't state that it migrate from project online to project online, but I may have missed it in there documentation.

When using PSI, I thought you had to have full trust with project server and again, I didn't think this was allows with Project online. This link https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/ee767706.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396 says that you have to have full trusted.

Looking forward to seeing you get this working and how it was done.
