Build, Publish, and unable to install due to restriction by Windows Policy. RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have develop a small Outtlook addin tool in .net 3.5 and i created a setup using Build-Publish option.
When we try to deploy we find that company's windows policy do not allow normal users to install.
We thought to temporary login as admin user and install it. but the problem with this approach is that then application will be available only to admin login.

We want a nice way to overcome this problem. we want to use Build-Publish (clickonce) deployment approach and yet would like to install application on via normal user logins, without playing around with windows policy.  Is there a way ?

  • Hi Jignesh,

    Thank you for your post.

As we know, when a ClickOnce application is installed on a client machine, the application files are downloaded to the current user location (%userprofile%\AppData\Local) and the ClickOnce application only runs on behalf of the current user.
This means, if you install it with Administrator account, it only runs on behalf of the Administrator account. It cannot be used by non-administrative users.

This forum is for the support of .NET Framework installation. Since your issue is related to ClickOnce, you could post your thread on ClickOnce and Setup & Deployment Projects forum. This will make answer searching in the forum easier and be beneficial to other community members as well.

    Thank you for your understanding.

Hope this helps! If you have any concern, please feel free to let me know.

    Best regards,
