Entity Framework - Mapping data entities with business entities RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello everyone,

We have currently developed a largescale Smart client application with occassionally connected architecture. Use SQL CE as a local database. Have used strong OO to create Business entities and they stay as a separate layer.

For data persistence, we have developed our own DAL layer framework and use inline queries (to get in to SQL CE). Application is live and running fine.

For the next phase, we are analyzing if ADO.Net entity framework would fit with us?

I see ADO.Net entity framework generates the Data layer entities and looking for a way to map this with our current business entities.

Should that be done manually or is there a automated way (which framework provides) so that I would map my business entities with EF data entities?

If I  had to manually write code to map the business entities and data entities, on doing SaveChanges() method, I presume that it would only take the data updated would go in to database (IE only the differential data)?

    Please share your thoughts.

    Regards

    Vasu
