GetEncryptionMethod method of the Win32_EncryptableVolume WMI class returns a non-published value RRS feed

  • Question

  • On Windows 10 anniversary update (and Windows Server 2016 RTM), the GetEncryptionMethod returns a value of 6. According to the MSDN page for this method, the values can range from 0 to 5 and -1. When I enabled BitLocker encryption on this specific volume I was prompted to select which encryption mode to use, either "new" or "compatible"; I chose new. I do not recall this prompt on the first release of Windows 10. I suspect the return value 6 is referencing this "new" method. I have been unable to find any documentation to substantiate this.

Does anybody have information on this?

    Thank you.
