dynamic ip address connection

  • I am building a C# app that will run on one of my laptops and ping the postgres database on my other laptop.  In the Npgsqlconnection object I pass the ip address of the 2nd laptop.  Which was working fine although I would have to update the connection object every time I would lose power and end up getting a new ip address.  I have just moved and now the frequency at which my ip address changes is much more frequent.  What is the best way to handle this problem?

  • Maybe you should use a name instead of IP. In order to determine if the name of the second laptop is available, use the “ping -a” command (ping -a XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX) in Command Prompt console on first laptop.
