    Hi,

I'm looking on information on how to implement two factor token based authentication in a Web API application. I'm limited to using WEB API version 1 using Visual Studio 2010 and .NET Framework 4.0. It will be deployed on IIS 6 machine. Most of the implementations I see are using newer technologies. I'm stuck using some of the older Microsoft technologies. Any help with this would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi jmelt5056,

Old technologies can't provide lots of libraries and functions, but you could implement it by yourself. I suggest you learn what is two factor authentication first.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Two-factor_authentication

Then implement your requirement step by step. You could reference some series of tutorials which write in WEB API2. If you encounter specific problems, you can come back create a new thread for more help.

    Best Regards,

Use ASP.NET Identity 2.x, put 2factor on authentication & use claims identity. This implies your WEB API validates tokens. WEB API does not offer login systems as it is not intended for GUI usage...
