iOS - Failed to start application on the target simulator RRS feed

  • Question

  • User68624 posted

I'm getting this errors, and I'm really starting to get frustrated. 2 different errors that stop building the project:

The first error: "Failed to start application on the target simulator" Message: error MT0024: Could not find required file '/Users/mac/Library/Caches/Xamarin/mtbs/builds/App1/80e08e8b42e9226ba09756b5985c2288/bin/iPhoneSimulator/Debug/App1.app/Info.plist'.

The second error: "Cannot copy /Users/mac/Library/Caches/Xamarin/mtbs/builds/App1/80e08e8b42e9226ba09756b5985c2288/obj/iPhoneSimulator/Debug/ibtool/MainStoryboard.storyboardc to /Users/mac/Library/Caches/Xamarin/mtbs/builds/App1/80e08e8b42e9226ba09756b5985c2288/bin/iPhoneSimulator/Debug/App1.app/MainStoryboard.storyboardc, as the source file doesn't exist"

I don't know what should I do to make those errors just go away, sometimes clearing the 'bin' & 'obj' folders fix them, sometimes resetting the contents and settings in the iOS simulator fixes them.

And of course as many guys said before: - "Auto Layout" option is disabled - Deployment Target is iOS 7.1

Can anybody tell me what to do to just solve those problems, please!!!

    I have a similar Problem with 2 Icons (.png's).

    Error-Message (one of two):
Users/imacmatrix/Library/Caches/Xamarin/mtbs/builds/MatrixGuideiOS/bd026c42adb79279873e181f338be63f/obj/iPhone/Debug/Suchen.png to /Users/imacmatrix/Library/Caches/Xamarin/mtbs/builds/MatrixGuideiOS/bd026c42adb79279873e181f338be63f/bin/iPhone/Debug/MatrixGuideiOS.app/Suchen.png, as the source file doesn't exist. MatrixGuide.iOS

I have added / changed some .png's in the iOS-Project.
The .png's are included in the project (VS).
It seems, as there are some problems on the MAC-side...
    How to solve this problems?
    Thanks

Update to my own posting from 15. September:

I my case the problem was caused because I had two .png's mit the same name in my iOS-project.
On time in the root, one time under \Resources.

The error message is very confusing, so that I have searched for a long time on the wrong places. Maybe this helps someone...

I'm getting this error as well and a bunch of other issues. It seems the quality of Xamarin 'stable' builds have gone down a lot these days. So frustrated.

    Getting something similar

Error 1 Cannot copy /Users/gherrmann/Library/Caches/Xamarin/mtbs/builds/FlxProMobileMonoTouch/bce7abb3f56b0ab710dc18d0700fac47/obj/iPhone/Debug/ibtool/MainStoryboard.storyboardc to /Users/gherrmann/Library/Caches/Xamarin/mtbs/builds/FlxProMobileMonoTouch/bce7abb3f56b0ab710dc18d0700fac47/bin/iPhone/Debug/FlxProMobileMonoTouch.app/MainStoryboard.storyboardc, as the source file doesn't exist. FlxProMobileMonoTouch

My Visual Studio solution has 3 iOS projects. One works, 2 dont. The one project that is working is all code behind and not using the storyboard. The ones that wont compile anymore I was using the Master/Details VS project.

Hi there, as I see it, the error messages of the ibtool (Compiler for Storyboard) are not shown in the build process in Visual Studio :-1:. So you probably have an error in your Storyboard. You can look for the errors under /Users/<User>/Library/Caches/Xamarin/mtbs/builds/MyFarmerMarkets/<UUID from error message>/obj/iPhoneSimulator/Debug/ibtool/<Name Storyboard>/<Name Storyboard>.plist

    Xamarin is this correct?

Hi @MarkusSchiller?, that's correct. This issue has been already reported in the following bug.

The root cause was a wrong logic on how the error messages were parsed, which was fixed on v3.9 (alpha and beta channel current public versions).

If you're still seeing the same issue on v3.9 please let us know.

    Thanks!

@sun.7206, the error you're seeing is a bit different because the files involved are .png files rather than .storyboardc files.

This is similar to the problem Fredy was discussing earlier in the thread. See in particular his comment:

I my case the problem was caused because I had two .png's mit the same name in my iOS-project.

On time in the root, one time under \Resources.

The error message is very confusing, so that I have searched for a long time on the wrong places. Maybe this helps someone

If Fredy's suggestion doesn't help and you have a Xamarin Business license or higher, then I'd recommend starting an email support case for the issue you're seeing using one of the support email addresses listed on https://store.xamarin.com/account/.

Even if you only have a trial license, we'd still be interested in getting a cleaned-up copy of your project that shows the problem. In that case, you can delete the bin\, obj\, Components\, and packages\ folders, zip up the whole solution directory, and send it as an email attachment or a Dropbox link (or similar) in an email to contact@xamarin.com.

    Thanks in advance!

Is there some news on this item? I am experiencing similar problems. Making a build for iPhone works fine, but running it on the simulator gives me a lot of missing .png file errors. The files are only in 1 location....

    Thanks!

I had the same problem, but for me it worked to first run the app on "Resizeable Ipad" simulator. It worked, and I could then choose "iphone simulator" and build it.

For those that are experiencing similar issues, problem could be if for some reason your problematic project is unchecked for building in configuration manager (in this case project still could be run for debugging, but solution would not be cleaned). This is more of a reminder, so check it, clean it, and try again.

Its interesting to know that without any device connected to the Mac agent, it builds successfully! Also the application runs on Simulators but not in the 2 iPhone devices that i'm testing on! :/

For me, I have deployed the same application which copied in 2 different solutions(folders). Firstly installed from one folder project and secondly deployed from different folder project with out uninstalling existing application. And kept on getting error message like Launch failed. The app 'xxxx' could not be launched on 'iPhone6s'. Please check the logs when install from another solution.

Solution: Whatever the deployment firstly done need to be uninstalled and deploy with another project. If still not working, deploy application which firstly deployed project folder and try..
