MS ACCESS .mdb files to MS SQL Server Express Edition 2005 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Good morning everybody,

I wish to recover MS ACCESS old databases and tables (ACCESS 97, ACCESS 2003) into SQL Server Express Edition 2005. I did not find any tab like "Import" in the menus.

Could I use SQL Server EE 2005 to import, or ACCESS to export?

Thank you in advance for your contribution

  • Search books online for "SQL Server 2005 SSIS Import/Export wizard" this is the tool that will do this.

  • If you use SQL Server Management Studio Express you can create a linked server to an Access database.

  • There is a feature called SSIS that will let you do this in SQL 2005 (used to be called DTS).  Search SQL Server 2005 Books Online for "SQL Server 2005 SSIS Import/Export wizard"

  • I'm a newcomer to SQL Server. I tried to link one of my ACCESS databases and I got the message:

An exception occurered while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch (Microsoft.SQLServer.Express.ConnectionInfo)

Additional information: The file on unit 'c:\....\myDB.mdb' is incorrect. SQLServer can't process it. Abnormal end to RESTORE HEADONLY (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 3241)

I dare confess that I feel a bit lost.
