Extra SQL Server backup events - azure IaaS vm extensions? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

We run SQL server 2012 in a VM (IaaS). We noticed extra backups (backup events) being taken under user NT Authority\System. (Right click any database, and select reports; Backup and Restore Events.) We have not scheduled these extra backups. They seem suspicious because they take substantially less time than our scheduled backups.

They seem  to correspond to our nightly VM backup times (red herring?).

I checked our VM extensions and we do not have “SqlIaaSAgent” or “SQLIaaSExtension”, which might account for these events.

Can someone explain what these are and whether we need them, and if not how to get rid of them?
