USB mass storage device formatting if filesystem is not FAT32 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

    I'm working on freescale iMX6Q.

    While testing we came to know that,

    USB mass storage device (Thumb drive or external hard disk) is formatted if the existing filesystem is not FAT32. If filesystem is FAT32 it's working properly.

    Why this behavior?

    Thanks.

    With regards,

    Keshava

  • Check this -

    HKLM\System\Storage Manager\Profile\<your profile name> reg key

    "AutoFormat " is set to 1 if yes set it to 0

  • Hi Misbah,

    Thank you for quick response.

    I have checked the reg key.

    Under HD storage, there is entry for FATFS only, and for that "AutoFormat" entry is not there.

    Whether there we need to add entries for other FS ?

    Thanks.

    With regards,

    Keshava

  • Check this, if not present try editing ... and check .

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS]
        "DisableAutoScan"=dword:00000001
        "DisableAutoFormat"=dword:00000001

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\HDProfile\FATFS]

    "DisableAutoFormat"=dword:1

  • Hi Misbah,

    Thank you...

    I will try your suggestion and will let you know.

    Also, is there any need of adding other filesystems in reg file?

    Because, device is formatted if the existing filesystem is not FAT32.

    If the filesystem is FAT32 it's not autoformatting and is working fine.

    Thanks.

    With regards,

    Keshava

  • Hi Misbah,

    Which filesystems are supported by WinCE?

    Is there any need of adding other filesystems (other than FATFS) in reg file?

    Because, device is formatted if the existing filesystem is not FAT32.

    If the filesystem is FAT32 it's not autoformatting and is working fine.

    Thanks.
