Problem with MS Updates on New Dell RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a brand new Dell XPS Fully Loaded and Upgraded, but there is one MS security update that will never load.  I have Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005.  I also have PC-Cillan Micro Trends Antivirus/Firewall Internet Security Protection.  Below is the update that I am not able to get as it fails every time.

Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 1.1 Service Pack 1 (KB886903) Failed to install

    The other issue I have:

I use Outlook Express as my email client and often I get error pop up messages from Micro Trends regarding an OE problem with AntiSpam and it shuts down my email client.  I have to then go into my windows processes and shut down the msmsgs.exe file so that I can relaunch OE.

Does anyone have any suggestions please?
    Thanks,
    Angela

  • I have also experienced problems with installing KB886903. Not a Dell but a rather old machine on which I have nevertheless never had any other problems with installing Windows/Microsoft updates. Tried many times with same result.

  • I've now downloaded the update from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=8EC6FB8A-29EB-49CF-9DBC-1A0DC2273FF9&displaylang=en

Initially, it still wouldn't install.  I then disabled Norton Internet security and the install was successful !!   I hope that helps you.
