Help! Windows Server 2012 - BitLocker on VM without TPM - thin provisioned storage RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have attempted numerous times to encrypt the System Drive on a VM running Windows Server 2012. The host server is running Windows Server 2012 as well (not R2).  The VM has a virtual floppy attached. BitLocker feature installed.  I execute the following command:

    manage-bde -protectors -add C: -recoverykey A:\ -startupkey A:\
    manage-bde -on C:

I reboot the VM and then, after logon I am presented with the following error message.

Error text: BitLocker Drive Encryption only supports used space only encryption on thin provisioned storage.

The encryption fails, however, if I run this on a Windows Server 2008 R2 VM and it works fine.

    Am I missing something?

    Thanks in advance!
