Kinect for Windows v2 vs Kinect for Xbox One RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have found the official page (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/kinectforwindows/meetkinect/features.aspx) that describes the hardware specifications for Kinect for Windows v2. But I cannot seem to find the hardware specification for Kinect for Xbox One. I just want to know if there is any difference in hardware specification between these two devices and if there are features, that are supported by the SDK 2.0 only for specific version?

  • Both sensors are exactly the same except for the logo on the front.

Note that for the Kinect for XBox One you will need to separately purchase the USB/power adapter. (which comes included with a Kinect for Windows v2 sensor btw)

You can get the adapters here:

  • Actually there is one slight difference with IR, as found here:

  • Fair enough, but since the IR blaster is not supported by the SDK anyway there is no functional difference. (at this moment)

  • I have an existing kinect for windows V2 and tried to connect it to an xbox one s and the xbox one s couldn't detect my kinect sensor. There is power and everything but the xbox one doesn't recognise that a kinect is plugged in

  • As far as I know it works only the other way around (Xbox sensor can be used on PC).
