Somebody cannot read these forums without signing in? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I was on a trip with a laptop that I had not used to access these forums before. I tried reading the Microsoft Money forum. It insisted that I log in, redirecting me to login.live.com. Odd I thought.

I entered email and password. It wanted me to accept a call to my home number. I was not home.

I tried to recreate that back at home. It still wanted the login, but let me in without phone confirmation. So my questions are

    1. Is requiring a login to read social.microsoft.com\forums fairly new?
    2. Did the insistence of a phone verification occur because I had told the internet access setup that I was on a public site, and I would have been able to sign in if I had said I was on a trusted when Windows asked what kind of network I was on, instead of saying I was on a public network?

    1. there is no such requirement for MSDN / TechNet forums
    2. sounds like the result of some other process
