ReportViewer 2010 performance problem binding Entity Framework entities RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am experiencing a huge performance lost (factor 10) after upgrading my reports in Visual Studio 2010 to RDLC 2008 format. The previous version in Visual Studio 2008 performed quite well.

I have an report which contains nested subreport (4 levels). As a datasource I am using Entity Framework entities.

When I manually delete all entity navigation properties from the data source definitions then the report performs very good.

I have got a feeling that the Report Viewer's behavior has changed and that all entity properties are evaluated by Report Viewer even if the property is not used in the report resulting in a bad performance.

    Is this a known issue?

Do I have other options than removing the navigation properties from the data source definition? I prefer to bind the report directly to the Entity Framework entities without using some kind of model classes.
