  • General discussion

  • Hey,

I have had a good look through the forums and other internet websites and still cannot solve the problem I am having on Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 (32bit).

I initially used the setup that came with Games for Windows Live but the installation fails and I get the error:

I have downloaded 3.5 SP1 from the microsoft website and I get the same error and I have also downloaded the full 231mb version and still get the same error.

I used the tool located here http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/pages/8904493.aspx and attempted to install 3.5 SP1 with the same error as before. I then installed framework version 3.5 http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=333325FD-AE52-4E35-B531-508D977D32A6&displaylang=en with success, then I attempted to install 3.5 SP1 with the same error.

This is highly fustrating as I have just reinstalled my operating system a few days ago and previously net framework 3.5 SP1 worked fine, and I was able to log into GFWL without it prompting me to install.

I have been into the control panel to see if net framework is enabled under Windows Features but all I get is a blank list with nothing in it. (See http://i26.tinypic.com/20tnreh.jpg)

I appreciate any help you can give me to solve this problem!!

    -Dan :)

  • yeah we both appear to have the same problem :( Shame I have yet to receive some help on here...

I am being left with the only solution to reinstall vista, which to be quite frank is unacceptable as a solution to this problem.

  • Hi Dtwazere,

Based on your description, you have the similar issue as Jocgame.

I've posted my suggestion on Jocgame's thread. See:
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/netfxsetup/thread/1ab5e089-c67c-48b9-9518-f229496ea9c1
You also can try the suggestion.

Hope this helps. If you have any concern, please feel free to let me know.

    Best regards,
    Yichun Chen

  • Hi dtwazere and jocgame,

I believe that your errors may be OS related. I was having the same problem with a slightly different error code. After searching all options that were out there i finally decided to give repairing a try and it worked. It didnt erase any of my programs or files or even any drivers. My suggestion would be to backup all your stuff and give it a shot. Here's a great site with detailed instructions on how to do a repair if you decide that is a step you may want to pursue.

    http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/88236-repair-install-vista.html

I know its not exactly what you guys wanted to hear but i hope this stuff helps.
