"This operation is not permitted because the blob has snapshots" Error RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm trying to delete a datadisk that I created through the portal. This was attached to a VM. After I captured the VM, the datadisk was included in the image, which I didn't want. So I deleted the disk, but I retained the VHD blob. I'm now trying to delete the VHD blob, but I'm getting this error.

Is there a way to delete the snapshots through the portal or do I have to use PowerShell?

  • Yeah, I ended up using CloudXplorer, but I shouldn't have had to.

I did generalize when I ran Sysprep. I'm going to try it again, but detach the datadisk before capturing to see if that makes a difference.

  • Hi,

You can use "CloudXplorer" to delete the VHD.

Also, if you want to create a image without datadisk configuration, then you may have to look into "Generalised VM Image" than creating "Specialized VMImage".
