Sql data sync agent generates some traffic in the background RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have recently installed MS SQL data sync agent to do bi-directional synchronization between Azure and on-premises database. What I have noticed that in the background sync agent constantly generates some traffic even there is nothing to sync. It approximately generates 2 MB per hour (upload+ download). It doesn’t look like a lot but in 24 hours it’s already 48MB and again there is absolutely no synchronization. So I’m curious is it by design? If so what is it constantly doing?

  • the sync schedule is stored in the Data Sync service in the cloud, the agent needs to report it's up in running to the service and at the same time check for sync tasks.

  • Thank you. So, it sounds like a normal behaviour. Good. I was afraid that my implementation was wrong.
