Earliest time to read registry ? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Experts:

My driver is a kernel mode USB WDF mouse filter driver.

What is the function in which I can safely read from the registry HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services ? DriverEntry, DeviceAdd or PrepareHW ?

Will it be safe at reboot since the registry path mentioned above might not be available ?

    Thanks

    Polaris

Answers

  • that path is available when your driver is loaded, so DriverEntry. BUT, that is global for the driver. usually you store per device settings in the devnode which you can start accessing in AddDevice
