How to add SQL Server Onpremise to Log Analytics RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello, I am working on the Azure panel with the Log Analytics tool, I have configured the agents on my Windows Server onpremise servers and everything went well, the issue I now have is with the onpremise SQL server, in the Azure panel it shows a box for Azure SQL Analytics, and I need to visualize the graphs for SQL Server.

    Any recommendation.

  • Hello NandoMiranda, Is there any screenshot you can share that will help illustrate this part of your question?

"shows a box for Azure SQL Analytics, and I need to visualize the graphs for SQL Server"

I assume the SQL Analytics solution was configured using these steps. If true, were you able to successfully navigate the steps on how to use the solution

Also wanted to share the sub-sections in the abovementioned doc as it may help answer your outstanding question.

    1. Viewing Azure SQL Analytics

    2. Azure SQL Database and elastic pool view

Hope this helps but don't hesitate to ping back if you have any follow-up questions.

    Cheers.

  • Hi,

Azure SQL Analytics solution only covers data coming from Azure SQL databases and Azure SQL Managed Instance, it does not cover SQL Server no matter if that SQL server resides in on-premises machine or Azure VM. There is only one solution that can work with SQL server and that is SQL Health Check. https://azuremarketplace.microsoft.com/en-us/marketplace/apps/Microsoft.SQLAssessmentOMS?tab=Overview

Keep in mind that the solution does not provide monitoring but rather recommendations on settings you can improve on your sql server. If you want monitoring for SQL server currently you have to build that on your own by collecting data via the various ways Azure Monitor (Log Analytics) offers, visualize it with workbooks and using alerts to signal on issues.
