.net 4 fails to install RRS feed

  • Question

  • When I try and install .net 4 on Windows 2008 R1 server nothing happens. When I look in task manager all I see is the name of the process and nothing ever opens on my screen.

I have tried running windows updates, using the .net cleanup tool, removing and reloading .net 3.5 feature. I am now out of ideas. Is there anything I can try?

  • Have you checked Windows Event log.

Are there any entries there which can help ?

  • I'm afraid not no, to me it looks like the installer never fully launches so no errors are logged. Unless there is an install log file somewhere I could check?

  • Hello Dave,

I have no idea what is Windows 2008 R1. Do you just mean Windows Server 2008? Have you installed its SP2 yet?

    Is it Server Core Role?

Please notice that to install .NET 4 without problem. You have to update your OS first, then check if you are using the right package:

    Normal: http://www.microsoft.com/en-in/download/details.aspx?id=17851

    Server Role:http://www.microsoft.com/en-in/download/details.aspx?id=22833

If it doesn't help, yep logs are required, please check your %temp% folder and search around your installation time and you will find .NET 4 installation log there. Please upload it to www.skydrive.com and share your link here.
