Source/Splitter for MP4 files in Windows 7 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

As per the msdn page: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd757766(v=VS.85).aspx

"The MPEG-4 file source parses MP4 and 3GPP files. ". But there is no DLL name given.

What is the dll name for MPEG-4 File Source used to play MPEG4 files? I could find the decoder (MP4SDecd.dll) but no other information about the splitter or the source.

    Thanks in advance

  • WMP 12 is Windows 7 only, AFAIK.  You cannot use the Win7 MS MPEG-4 components on Vista for two reasons:

    1.  They don't work.

    2.  It is violation of copyright and the license agreement that you agreed to when you installed Windows.

  • This is a continuation of this earlier thread in the dshow forum:

It is courteous to provide a link so that anyone reading this thread can see the history and that you're talking about WMP.

What is your purpose for knowing the DLL name?  You cannot distribute this DLL on other versions of Windows.  Also, you cannot change the source or decoder that WMP uses.

    Okay. Will do so.

I am developing a decoder for MPEG 4 files in Vista and looking for any third party or MS splitter for MPEG4 files. Now WMP12 plays MP4 using default MS MPEG4 source/splitter/decoder. So I wanted to see which default media source is being used and can the same cmponent be used in Vista. But i couldnt find the dll name anywhere and so put up the question here.
