Stop POS Service before applying updates RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

I'm currently working on a POC to upgrade our POS devices from Windows XP to Windows 8.1 Ind Pro.  We use SCCM 2012 R2 to manage our devices so will be taking advantage of the inbuilt support for UWF when applying updates or installing applications. One question I have though is how can I stop our POS service on the devices before rebooting into service mode to apply updates?

I've seen examples of people using a TS to disable the write filter, reboot, apply updates, reboot and re-enable the UWF on previous versions of the embedded OS and I did try to get this working on Windows 8.1 without any luck.  I can stop the POS service, disable the UWF and reboot but then the TS stops and doesn't continue.  I added in file exclusions to include:

    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\SMS
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\CCM
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WinLogon
    HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\smstsmgr
    %WINDIR%\CCM
    %WINDIR%\System32\Wbem
    %SystemDrive\_SMSTaskSequence
    %WINDIR%\BootStat.dat
    %WINDIR%\RegFData

Any suggestions on this would be appreciated.
