Raw unaltered depth data from the Kinect possible with MS Kinect SDK? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Is there a way go grab nonmanipulated raw depth data with the MS Kinect SDK?

The current API delivers depth data converted to millimeters and data beyond 4 meters is capped to a sentinel value "Too far: 0x7ff8".

We can do this with libfreenect but we would prefer to use the MS Kinect SDK if possible to detect objects a bit further than 4 meters. Is it possible to do more lowlevel depth stream data capture with the MS Kinect SDK?

  • we just released the 1.6 SDK http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj663803.aspx

Extended Depth Data Is Now Available

CopyDepthImagePixelData() now provides details beyond 4 meters; please note that the quality of data degrades with distance. In addition to Extended Depth Data, usability of the Depth Data API has been improved. (No more bit masking is required.)
